Austria has a wood surface of 3.92 million hectares; that is more than 46% of the surface of the state, with an increasing tendency. The revenue-generating forest makes up 83% of the wood surface.
Tree type composition in the revenue-generating forest (per wood stocks):
fir 61.4%, beech 9.2%, pine 9.0% and larch 6.8%.

SUSTAINABILITY
The forest or the material of wood and the term of sustainability have always been very closely linked. This is not a coincidence, 300 years ago this term found its way into forest management and it still remains an important basic principle of forest management in Austria.
